Koke called me from his Grandpa's house to "tell me the news." He was very invested in John McCain. (He actually dressed as Senator McCain for Halloween.) So naturally, he was very disappointed.
I told him two things...1.) It's remarkable that a man who looks like he looks and has the name that sounds like his sounds could become the leader of a country that just two generations ago made people use separate restrooms based on race. Given where we were, I think it's remarkable that our generation is more involved in the political system (not apathetic like the in the 80s & 90s or rebelling against it like the 60 & 70s). But young people, for the first time, actually voted for what they though was best for the country.
2.) God is in control. Barack Obama will be the president only because God wants it that way. Often we don't understand what God is working in the world, but we are confident that he is. So I prayed for our next president.

well said.
I was not an Obama supporter and am actaully kind of scared about what lies ahead for this great nation. But I disagree with you saying that God WANTS him to be president. I understand that God is in control, but He does sometimes just allow things to happen. For me personally, I think it is a sign of the times, the world is suppose to be more wicked as The Second Coming draws nearer. I do not think that God can want someone who has such liberal views, but He will allow it...does this make sense?
Whether by God's action or inaction God had willed for Barack Obama to be president. That's what it means to be a soverign being. When you act it causes things and when you do not act it causes things. God is never passive in the events of our lives. Consider texts like Daniel 4:17, Romans 13:1-4.
I still do not agree, but that is ok. :) It is just like someone who kills someone. God's will is not behind that but He does allow it to happen, for whatever reason. I have personally been affected by a crime such as this. In my mind I cannot fatham that God would be behind such a crime.
Back to Obama, I do not think God's will could be behind someone with such unrighteousness. Abortion, gay marriage, etc.
Doug,
You've certainly got a lot on your plate right now! I am encouraged that He continues to give you strength to carry on.
I just sent an email out to some of my family whom are also my family in Christ. It has something to do with the upcoming choice for Chief of Staff and this blurb from Jeffrey Goldberg: http://jeffreygoldberg.theatlantic.com/archives/2008/11/rahm_emanuel_and_israel.php
A mentor of mine (BSF teaching leader) has always said, "You should always read the newspaper in one hand with a Bible in the other."
As I tell the children I teach, "What God says will happen will happen."
I don't know when... but I do know it will.
I too am praying for our new president elect (even though I didn't vote for him either).
Love to you and your family,
Nancy
